{"id":5792,"date":"2020-12-03T06:32:42","date_gmt":"2020-12-03T06:32:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.wissenschaftliche-integritaet.de\/kommentare\/fallbeispiel-ehrenautorschaften\/"},"modified":"2021-06-09T13:38:51","modified_gmt":"2021-06-09T13:38:51","slug":"case-study-honorary-authorships","status":"publish","type":"kommentare","link":"https:\/\/dev.wissenschaftliche-integritaet.de\/en\/comments\/case-study-honorary-authorships\/","title":{"rendered":"Case study \u2013 Inadmissible \u201chonorary authorships\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Examples of inadmissible honorary authorships:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If heads of institutes wish to be listed as authors \u201cby default\u201d because they are \u201cresponsible for the publication\u201d even though they have made no contribution to its content, this is to be deemed a case of inadmissible honorary authorship. \u201cThis is the way it&#8217;s always been done\u201d does not count as an argument.<\/li><li>Let us assume a case where postdocs have essentially carried out a project entirely on their own, but the group leader wants to be named as a co-author since she\/he claims to have provided critical feedback. This requires an assessment of whether the group leader has made a genuine, scientifically relevant contribution. The group leader should be able to provide evidence of this.<\/li><li>Doctoral or postdoctoral researchers are sometimes listed in publications even though their contribution was minimal or non-existent \u2013 simply because they \u201cneed a publication\u201d. In such cases, authorship may have been granted for strategic reasons; since it might simply be a case of one person\u2019s word against another, the actual scope of the contribution made by the alleged honorary author must be assessed (and proven) in each individual case.<\/li><li>There are reported cases of renowned scientists being deliberately included as authors (with their consent or even without it) so as to give the articles concerned a better chance of being recognised and accepted by a journal.
