In this way, the institution can offer a clear choice to those seeking advice.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-55844\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">What methods are suitable for \u201cpublicising\u201d ombudspersons?<\/h4><div id=\"ac-55844\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>There are various ways of \u201cpublicising\u201d ombudspersons, for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Publication on the website in a place that is easy to find; the search term \u201combudsperson\u201d should help here.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Announcement by means of a posted notice, in the course catalogue, in internal newsletters, on social media.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Presentation of ombudspersons at suitable events held at the respective institution.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Reference should be made to ombudspersons in the information brochures provided for newly recruited staff.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Please always report details of newly appointed ombudspersons and those that have ceased their term of office to the German Research Ombudsman so that the list \u201cOverview of current ombudspersons\u201d is always up-to-date for those seeking advice.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<div id=\"links-block_5eda56a0d39cf\" class=\"kodex__comments-full--used-links links\"><h3 class=\"mb05em\">  <\/h3><a class=\"kodex__comments-full--used-links  outside-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ombudsman-fuer-die-wissenschaft.de\/contact\/?lang=en\"  target=\"_blank\">Contact to the office of &#8220;The German Research Ombudsman&#8221;<span><\/span><\/a><a class=\"kodex__comments-full--used-links  outside-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ombudsman-fuer-die-wissenschaft.de\/list-of-ombudspersonen\/?lang=en\"  target=\"_blank\">List of current Ombudspersons<span><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-55845\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Institutional measures to facilitate the work of ombudspersons<\/h4><div id=\"ac-55845\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Institutional measures to facilitate the work and activities of ombudspersons include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Providing ombudspersons support and flexibility in scheduling by establishing an administrative office for ombudsperson services.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Reducing the teaching hours of ombudspersons.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The appointment of several ombudspersons at one institution is also beneficial.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<div id=\"links-block_5fc17865d1799\" class=\"kodex__comments-full--used-links links\"><a class=\"kodex__comments-full--used-links \" href=\"https:\/\/dev.wissenschaftliche-integritaet.de\/en\/comments\/relief-measures-for-ombudspersons\/\"  >\u201cRelief measures\u201d for ombudspersons<span><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-55846\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Should ombudspersons hold a doctorate?<\/h4><div id=\"ac-55846\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Ombudspersons do not necessarily have to hold a doctorate. The office\/tasks of ombudsman should be entrusted to persons who are well acquainted with the relevant issues at the respective institution. They should work in research itself or in research-related areas (e.g. science management, research libraries, research data management) and have leadership experience, as well as being approachable and acceptable to staff. For this reason, it may be appropriate to consider different profiles when appointing several ombudspersons.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-55847\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Who can give me information and tips on setting up my own \u201combudsperson office&#8221;?<\/h4><div id=\"ac-55847\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The office of the German Research Ombudsman can provide further information here; in particular, it can refer enquiries to institutions that have already established an office for ombudsperson services.<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"links-block_5eddf89252384\" class=\"kodex__comments-full--used-links links\"><h3 class=\"mb05em\"> <\/h3><a class=\"kodex__comments-full--used-links  outside-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ombudsman-fuer-die-wissenschaft.de\/6201\/ombudsstellen-in-deutschland\/\"  target=\"_blank\">Information on Research Integrity Offices on the website of &#8220;The German Research Ombudsman&#8221;<span><\/span><\/a><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-55848\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">How can I embed and project the topic of \u201cgood research practice\u201d (GRP) within my institution?<\/h4><div id=\"ac-55848\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>GRP should become a regular subject of dialogue in the institution.<\/li><li>Various institutional governing bodies should be involved, e.g. the faculty council and senate.<\/li><li>Awareness of GRP should be raised in the context of appointment negotiations, and GRP expertise should form part of every appointment agreement.<\/li><li>GRP should be one of the topics addressed at introductory days\/events for new professors.<\/li><li>GRP should be an integral part of higher education; courses on GRP should be fully integrated in the curriculum and should be a prerequisite for enrolment on a master\u2019s degree programme; concepts are to be developed for this purpose.<\/li><li>Training should also be provided for ombudspersons to enable them to develop their expertise and engage in exchanging their experiences. All in all, the institution should support positive promotion of the position of ombudsperson.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-55849\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Does the spokesperson of a collaborative research project\/network count as a \u201ccentral governing body\u201d?<\/h4><div id=\"ac-55849\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>No, this regulation does not apply to this group since a person in such a position can usually act independently of the senior management of the respective institution and provide advice in the event of conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"links-block_5fc179abd179b\" class=\"kodex__comments-full--used-links links\"><a class=\"kodex__comments-full--used-links \" href=\"https:\/\/dev.wissenschaftliche-integritaet.de\/en\/comments\/definition-of-central-governing-bodies\/\"  >Definition of \u201ccentral governing bodies\u201d<span><\/span><\/a><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h4 id=\"at-558410\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Guideline 6 of the Code of Conduct explicitly limits an ombudsperson\u2019s term of office.
